We are looking forward to 2026! 2025 was a busy year for the Appropriate Sanitation Institute. 2025 Highlights: We have been editing and dubbing into English a series of online video classes featuring experts at Caesb, the water and sanitation company of the Federal District of Brazil. Caesb has the most robust Condominial community participation program in the world. The first videos in the Caesb video series are available on the classes page. Almost all of the articles Grace has been editing came out in the Oxford Encyclopedia of Water, Sanitation, and Global Health. Grace was a guest on the Finding Water Podcast, which led to an invitation to be a panelist at the International Water Association's World Water Congress in Toronto. There she met Dr. Pabel Avilés, who teaches at Tec de Monterrey, in Puebla Mexico. They began to plan an internship program to send students to learn Condominial technology. At the International Water Association's (IWA) World Water Congress conference Grace was nominated for the IWA Gender Diversity and Water Award! After the IWA conference, Grace was invited to give a keynote address at the Simposio Ambiente y Bioenergía (Environmental and Bioenergy Symposium) in Veracruz, México. On that trip, I visited Dr. Pabel in Puebla and visited some of the sanitation projects that his students have been working on in small rural towns. FlushFest 2025 was a great success, and we give a big thanks to our community in Hillsborough that makes this work possible. And, last but not least for 2025 news, Grace was nominated for the Stockholm Water Prize, the world's most prestigious water prize! For 2026, we are very excited to launch the pilot internship program, where we'll be sending 4 students from Mexico to Brazil to study the Condominial sewerage system. These students will train to implement similar systems in their own communities back in Mexico.
